Dr Alan Cameron
Fellow of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia
After completing his medical degree at the University of Sydney, Dr Cameron trained as a GP, but has been working exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers for more than 15 years. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and a Fellow of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Dr Cameron is co-author of a major textbook of skin cancer diagnosis, and is active in education of GPs and specialists in this field. He has spoken at conferences at all levels, from small groups of local GPs to large international conferences for specialist dermatologists. He is also active in research related to early skin cancer diagnosis.
Dr Cameron’s practice focuses on the care of patients who are at extreme risk of melanoma, or who frequently get multiple skin cancers.
A standard appointment is fifteen minutes, allowing enough time for a full skin check. Biopsies and other small procedures not requiring sutures can usually be done at this initial appointment. Other surgery will be booked at a subsequent appointment.
A full skin check requires you to get undressed to underwear. Please don’t wear makeup, sunscreen or moisturiser to your appointment.
Dr Cameron performs most skin cancer surgery including most flap and graft repairs. While all skin cancer surgery can be bulk billed, be aware that Medicare reduces rebates if more than one lesion is treated on the same day. This may lead to out of pocket expenses if more than one lesion at a time is treated.
