Dr Leadston named MO GPET Supervisor of the Year

Congratulations to Dr Bill Leadston from IPN’s Preston Family Medical Practice in Victoria who has been awarded MO Supervisor of the Year at the recent 2012 General Practice Education and Training (GPET) Conference.

In a career spanning almost 40 years of GP Education, Dr Leadston has taught 132 registrars and 145 medical students.

“Quite a lot of them have become supervisors themselves,” he said. “I like to encourage them to be involved in other aspects of medicine, not just seeing patients. What has kept me going over the years is the variety of things.”

He said increased recognition of the value of GP supervisors could create better doctors.

“I’m hoping more and more bureaucrats and others will see that the on-ground teaching we do as supervisors in the practice on a day-to-day basis is probably the most important teaching tool to produce good, empathetic doctors,” he said.
